We cannot stop the hands of time or slow down the aging process. It is something that is going to happen. However, there are ways to look younger in your 60s that you can incorporate into your everyday life.
Staying Hydrated and Healthy Eating
You are what you eat. And one of the biggest factors affecting how you age is your diet. Maintaining a balanced diet ensures that you are getting all your vitamins and nutrients. Keeping hydrated by drinking plenty of water is a natural way at keeping skin moisturized and tight. One way to test if you are hydrated enough is to pinch your skin and if it doesn’t release, you are not hydrated. We are made up of 70% water and it’s important to keep ourselves hydrated to not only remain looking young but also to keep other issues at bay.
Look After Your Skin
Perhaps the most obvious action to take when trying to age gracefully is to look after your skin. As the largest organ, the skin still often gets overlooked. Your skin protects you from elements and provides you with a sense of touch. It’s also what visually makes you age. Make sure to keep it moisturized by using retinol and use gentler soaps. Wear sunscreen every day, even during the winter months. Lastly, get regular checkups for skin cancer.
Quit Smoking and Drinking
If you needed a sign to kick the bad habits, this is it. Smoking and drinking only work to counteract any changes your body is trying to make. It speeds up aging and deteriorates your body. If your loved one smokes and drinks, encourage or help them to slowly give it up. Smoking and drinking weigh us down and cause so many potential problems that can be avoided. The first step to making sure we continue to live a long and healthy life is to give bad habits up.
Exercise Regularly
The importance of exercising comes as no surprise by now. Not only does it keep you healthy internally, but externally keeps you looking young and youthful. Exercising lowers stress and improves skin health. Sweat is a skin purifier that gets rid of impurities and opens up your pores. Exercising also boosts your skin’s elasticity and allows you to age gracefully.
Staying Mentally Young
You are only as old as you believe you are. If you think of yourself as a lot older than you actually are chances are you will prohibit yourself from doing a great many things. Being positive about getting older has been shown to have a positive effect on the aging process. Getting to grow old is something not everyone gets to enjoy. Spend time with people who are positive, uplifting, and who embrace you. This reduces depression and loneliness and improves your mental and physical wellbeing. Learn to look within yourself and understand who you are inside. Life’s too short to not be who you truly are.
